Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with many others subject to postponements.

Officials had earlier anticipated that dozens of flights could be affected.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The airport attributed the operational halt to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the terminal as residual delays are cleared.
