Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Is Here, Unveiling Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Actors
Nintendo and Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that highlighted the forthcoming animated feature.
The follow-up to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will send Mario to the outer limits of the universe. Along the way, he discovers a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Classic Games
In the vein of the Wii-era games that provide its foundation, Mario will depart from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will reunite with some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a fan favorite from the previous film.
However, it seems Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands
The film will see the return of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. It was announced by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The upcoming Mario film is planned to debut around the time of the four-decade milestone of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a important time for Mario and his allies.
The company has three new games officially announced for the upcoming year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to hit theaters on April 3, 2026.
