The defender will miss the English team's World Cup qualifying match against the Latvian side due to injury and the defender – who did not play in the national team's three-nil friendly victory over Wales at Wembley – will head back to his club Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Liverpool defender has been a key player in Leverkusen's defence this campaign but the national squad said no further team replacements were arranged for the qualifier in Riga on Tuesday.
The English side could qualify for the upcoming World Cup with two matches to spare if they beat Latvia on Tuesday and outcomes elsewhere in their qualifying group go their way.
